Ammonium Sulfate Quality & Documents
The documents issued with an ammonium sulfate shipment from China — what each one is, who issues it, and how to use it to verify what you received.
Documents issued with a shipment
Documents are prepared on a per-shipment basis. The exact set depends on the destination, your payment instrument and any specific requirement you raise at the enquiry stage.
| Document | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Certificate of Analysis (COA) | Analysis of the production lot actually shipped, issued by the manufacturer. |
| Technical Data Sheet (TDS) | Product description, physical and chemical properties, handling and storage information. |
| Commercial Invoice | Value and description of the goods for customs and payment purposes. |
| Packing List | Packaging, number of units, net and gross weights per shipment. |
| Certificate of Origin | Origin certification for the shipment, as required by the destination market. |
| Bill of Lading | Transport document covering container or bulk vessel shipment. |
| Other export documents | Additional certificates or attestations are reviewed and confirmed for each order. |
Certification: Documents are issued on a per-shipment basis. Certification availability is confirmed for each order before contract.
How to use the certificate of analysis
The COA is the document that tells you what actually arrived. Three checks are worth making every time.
1. Check it against the contract, not against the offer
The analysis on the certificate has to satisfy the specification in the contract you signed, including the basis on which limits are expressed. A figure that looks acceptable can fail a contractual limit if the two are expressed on different bases — dry versus as received, or sulfur as S versus as SO₄.
2. Check that it is traceable to a production lot
A certificate of analysis should identify the lot it describes and be issued by the manufacturer. A certificate typed up by the trading company with no traceable link to a production lot is a different document with different value, however similar it looks.
3. Check it before the balance payment
The production lot is known before the vessel sails, so the certificate is available before the goods are paid for in full. If a supplier is reluctant to release it at that point, ask why.
Sampling and analysis
Analysis results depend on the sample and the method. Two laboratories can reach slightly different figures on the same material, and neither is necessarily wrong.
For a specification you intend to enforce, agree in advance: who takes the sample, by which method, and which analysis governs if there is a question — the pre-shipment certificate or an independent analysis at discharge. Unstated, this is the clause most likely to be argued about later.
Letters of credit and document matching
The single most common cause of payment delay in fertilizer trade is a discrepancy between the documents presented and the letter of credit. Almost all of them are avoidable.
Before the credit is opened, check every document it calls for against what can actually be issued: which party issues it, in what wording, and within what timeframe. If the credit calls for a certificate that cannot be obtained, or names a party that does not issue the document you expect, that has to be corrected before the goods move — not discovered at presentation.
What we do not claim
This website does not claim SGS certification, ISO certification, REACH registration or any other certification for our supply. Where a certification exists for a particular order, it is confirmed for that order and evidenced by the actual document.
We also do not publish production capacity figures, factory details or customer names. This is a trading and export operation, and the site describes it as one.
Verification checklist
- COA is the manufacturer's document for the lot shipped
- Analysis satisfies the contract specification, on the same basis
- Sulfur declared as S or SO₄ — confirm which
- COA released before the balance payment
- Invoice entity matches the contracting entity
- Bank account name matches the contracting entity
- Document list matches the letter of credit, checked before opening
Need a specific document? Raise it with the first enquiry. Certificates that are unusual for a destination often need lead time, and some cannot be added once the shipment has moved.
Documents — common questions
Who issues the certificate of analysis?
The manufacturer issues the certificate of analysis for the specific production lot shipped. It is not a document prepared by the trading company — it should be traceable to the lot you received, and you should be able to check it against the specification in your contract.
What is the difference between a TDS and a COA?
A technical data sheet describes the product in general: properties, handling, storage. A certificate of analysis describes a specific production lot. The TDS tells you what the product is; the COA tells you what you received.
Do you provide SGS, ISO or REACH certificates?
We do not claim certification on this website that we have not verified and been given permission to publish. If your market or your customer requires a particular certificate, tell us at the enquiry stage and we will confirm whether it can be obtained for your order before contract.
Can the documents match a letter of credit?
Yes, but the document list in the credit has to be checked against the documents that can actually be issued before the credit is opened. A mismatch discovered at presentation is a payment delay, and almost all such discrepancies are avoidable by checking in advance.
